Penn State Eats | Mobile Food Ordering

A web/mobile application that will allow students on campus to order food ahead of time to their desired commons for pickup.

Penn State University tasked our design team to come up with a solution to their business problem. With the growing student population the food lines were also growing as well. This has created a problem in which the wait times for food are too long and the foot traffic in those areas would slow to a crawl creating a horrible user experience for all visitors.

Field research via, surveys, short questionnaires, fly-on-the-wall, were all conducted over the course of 1 week. After synthesizing the data and identifying the pain points of the user base we were able to finally begin creating solutions to solve the business problems.

In order to combat this our team created two solutions. First was to optimize the current user experience and refine the UI currently installed on the food kiosks. Second was to create a mobile ordering experience to eliminate the lines altogether. With our team of 20+ members we divided ourselves into research teams and design teams. Several members overlapping in both departments.

After about 3 weeks of iterations and discussions with our sponsor we created a design solution we were satisfied with and handed it off to the university engineers to build.
